Suspect identification is a complex process in the justice system. It is aimed at identifying perpetrators of crime by eliminating people from the list of possible suspect. In contemporary times, advancement in technology has seen the use of advanced techniques in forensic analysis to identify suspects. This article will scrutinize the merits and demerits of forensic examination as a tool of suspect identification admissible in court.
Forensics means scientific tests or techniques used in investigation of crime (Seddon, 2009). Therefore, forensic evidence is evidence taken from a crime scene and tested scientifically in laboratories to determine the crime suspect or the matter in which the crime was committed (Seddon, 2009).
[...] In conclusion, forensic analysis in not as easy as it seems because it involves various disciplines such as engineering, medicine, pathology, linguistics, chemistry, criminology and many more other subjects. It therefore consumes a lot of time hence delaying the verdict. Moreover, where the case is unique, there is often much variation of results. While other suspects have a tendency of doctoring evidence therefore leading to wrong analyze and finally acquiring wrong interpretation and conclusion. In some situations, some fluids have a small window to perform experiments and when this window closes, it will be difficult to find the exact results since they are expired. This method can be used in cases like rape where a sample of semen is taken to the lab to determine its genetic composition.
