This presentation is based on the internet and in particular TCP/IP. The presentation will start with a definition of what TCP/IP is and then move onto the history and goals of TCP/IP. it will then shift its focus to the four layes that constitute the transmission control protocol/ Internet Protocol. Explanations about the application and transport layers have also been included. The next topic is the network layer which comes just after the message format. The presentation concludes with mentions of the important features and protocols with TCP/IP.
[...] The Host-to-Network Layer Host machine is in direct contact with network through physical media IMPORTANT FEATURES OF TCP/IP TCP/IP is the Internet Communication Protocol(defines the rules for communication of computers over the network) Your E-Mail Uses TCP/IP for sending and receiving emails Your Internet Address is TCP/IP, Your Internet address " " is a part of the standard TCP/IP protocol. (And so is your domain name "www.someonesplace.com") TCP/IP uses fixed connection: it uses full duplex or half duplex for connection after handshaking with peer computers on internet i.e. [...]
[...] History Current internet architecture Origin back in 1960 with the grandfather of the internet, the ARPANET TCP/IP is research network sponsored by DOD(Department of defence) Goals Ability to connect different networks together seamlessely Ability for connection to remain intact as long as source and destination machines were functioning To be built on flexible architecture TCP/IP consists of four layers Application layer Transport layer Internet layer Host to network layer The reference model was named after two of its main protocols, TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) and IP (Internet Protocol) The basic idea of the networking system is to allow one application on a host computer to talk to another application on a different host computer.
