Chlamydia is a STD (Sexually Transmitted Disease) and the causative organism for it is known as 'Chlamydia trachomatis'. They attach to the host cell with the help of specialized organelles called 'microvilli' which facilitates its entry into the cytoplasm. It mainly affects the uterus and cervix (in women) and urethra and penis (in male). It generally results into conjuctival and corneal infection which are classified as symptoms of Chlamydia. It is important to know about the disease because it is one of the most common STDs and also the symptoms are not prominently seen. This article gives an overview of the bacterium that causes Chlamydia and how it acts inside the host body.
Chlamydia particularly affects the immune system of the body which further results in the appearance of symptoms (vaginal discharge, burning sensation while passing urine both in men and women, etc.) related to the infection. The bacteria results into the rapid multiplication and aggregation of cells which express the CD14 molecule. This probably causes the inflammation which is regarded as a symptom in this disease. They also block the lysosomal attack once inside the cell, by 'Type III secretion apparatus'.

[...] This results into pain and bleeding and the condition is called 'ectopic pregnancy'. Chlamydia also leads to blindness since it results into inflammation of conjuctiva (thin layer of tissue covering the white portion of eye). Chlamydia is said to show no early symptoms and no distinct symptoms, which is why it is often left untreated. In such cases, it can scar the cornea and results into blindness. Chlamydia is a grave disease and very frequently reported in the United States. [...]
