[...] CONCLUSION : The treaty of Trianon remains a trauma for Hungarian people. Indeed, besides its terrible economic consequences by preventing Hungary from its natural ressources, by interrupting commercial roads, and by taking away some strategic geographic points like the harbor of Rijeka, this treaty caused serious damages on the demographic side, taking half of the Hungarian population away. Indeed, by creating new borders, it put the Hungarian unity in a very difficult position : Hungarian minorities across the borders were discriminated in their new countries and lost their rights in Hungary. [...] Indeed, we can see that this treaty mostly affected Hungary on the short term. It remains important to remind that, on the medium and long term, the treaty did not weaken Hungary as much as it is commonly proposed. Indeed, natural ressources were no longer key determinants of economic growth between the two world wars, so its loss of mines and forests did not affect the economy that much at this time. On the geopolitical side, Hungary's army was hugely lowered: it was reduced to 35,000 men (against 1,400,000 soldiers in 1918) with no conscription. [...]

The fact that this treaty is seen as a trauma is such an important phenomenon that it even was named by historians : the Trianon syndrome.
