While many people contend that the "Gilded Age" was simply the golden age of "robber barons", such as steel magnate Andrew Carnegie or railroad tycoon Cornelius Vanderbilt, I posit that a more lasting impact of "The Gilded Age" is that of industrial consolidation and extensive technological advancement. During the latter half of the 19th century, the post-Reconstruction United States underwent significant change both politically and economically.
