In modern America, most activities of common life revolve around oil. All over the nightly news, every newspaper, and in everyday conversation there is talk about rising gas prices and the control oil has over people. In the painting above, the anonymous artist conveys the problem he sees in America about our dependence on oil literally sucking the lifeblood out of America.
[...] They were able to see how bound America is to the ever-ominous oil well, and as long as they are in control of the wells, they can continue to drain America. Many lobbyist groups working with politicians see the fact that if Americans were able to cut the line between the toil, blood, and money of America from the oil well, then we would no longer be under control of oil. The lobbyists have pointed out that oil is not the one and only energy source. [...]
[...] The audience is more importantly those who have to purchase any form of oil product, which can be anything from gasoline for the family van or a corporate jet or a petroleum based product, such as plastics used to wrap food or wrap scientific equipment. Oil pertains to nearly every American in some form, which makes the painting pertain to most Americans. The artist successfully makes connections on many different levels to the general audience of oil consumers. To the everyday American, the artist is calling attention to the fact that Americans are having their hard-earned money drained out of them. [...]
