According to the Princeton Dictionary, progress is defined as an "advancement: gradual improvement or growth or development". When the idea of progress or growth is brought to mind, most American's believe that extensive progress has been made in the area of racial segregation, more specifically in the case of the "Little Rock Nine". The Little Rock Nine was a group of nine black students chosen from an all black high-school to integrate Central High in Little Rock, Arkansas in order to promote racial integration in America in 1957.

[...] Little Rock has moved on the change their ways to a more positive standpoint on integration. Central High in 1957 was no where near the racial equality that it is today. Other accounts of the 1957 integration support this fact. Melba described most of her abuse physically whereas Roberts talked about the emotional toll it took on him. Roberts discussed his life as “born into a drama that was already underway”. This quotation means that segregation was happening and a plan for integrating and desegregation was on the way. [...]
