The rise of the illegal drug market is attributed to many different factors. Some theories of how is movement has grown is centered on the individual. They believe the individual is at fault and it is he/she's constant need for drugs that allows the expansion of the market. The individual is seen as weak and was drawn into this addiction or maybe it is an issue that faces society rather than that individual drug user. Opposed to the focus on the individual some believe society has failed to provide a better option that will steer people away from this illegal market. Beneath the surface of the drug market the users themselves come from all different races, classes, and genders.
