It is truly shocking the controversy that is stirred by the World Bank. What is even more shocking is how truly complex the group's operations actually are. With novels being published written strictly about "The Case Against the World Bank" (Danaher), it is probably imperative to a debate to further delve into the history and politics of the World Bank itself. After much research, historical background, and information regarding the World Bank, a better opinion of the group can be made. Alongside comparing various view points from both sides of the spectrum, the actual purpose of the World Bank can be completely recognized.
As with any debate, a complete overload of the facts regarding a topic must be completely stated. As clearly written on worldbank.com (the group's official website) the purpose and goal of the group is said to be "working for a world free of poverty." The group of five organizations, when together, are cleverly called the World Bank Group. The five organizations: International Finance Corporation (IFC), International Development Association (IDA), International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), International Center for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) all have their own respective responsibilities. Besides the hope of completely abolishing poverty, the World Bank Group also provides aid and advice in the hope of a positive economic development.

[...] The World Bank quickly combated the charges by proving on their website that they have given nearly billion in an effort to cure, solve, or aid the Aids problem. Alongside some political banter regarding the services of Paul Wolfowitz and his unethical way of work, the World Bank has surprisingly been out of the public eye much of the time. That is not to say that those were the only instances of question in favor of the World Bank. Another frequented point of question is the environmental issue in regards to just how positive of an affect the World Bank actually has. [...]

After hearing the wildly disapproving look on the World Bank, it is probably a good idea to remember that, despite certain factors, the World Bank's overall goal is a monumental one. They claim to be a “vital source of financial and technical assistance to developing countries around the world.” Despite the numerous failed projects, it has been clearly proven and reported that the World Bank has done it's fair share in the struggle to aid others in poor countries.
