In the US, a third of the population owns a gun. It is estimated that more 300 k guns are owned in the US. However, each year, guns caused about 30 000 deaths, and among them many suicides. In 2017, more than 400 mass shootings occurred in the USA. In the recent years, many shootings occurred in the USA: Orlando (2016, 50 deaths), Las Vegas (2017, 53 deaths, most deadful shooting in all the history of the USA), California, in a synagogue recently.

[...] Today UK has one of the toughest gun controls. 1981: assassination attempt on President Reagan (US). 1987: Hungerford massacre in UK (16 killed wounded) Firearms act amended in 1988: ban all semi-automatic rifles. 1990: the Crime Control Act had created Gun-Free Zones banning any individual from having a gun near a school. 1993: Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act: background checks for gun purchases from license dealers. 1996: 16 children and their teacher were killed at a school in Dunblane Columbine High School massacre: 2 students killed 12 students and a teacher in Colorado a man killed 32 persons and wounded 17 others at Virginia Tech.
