Prejudice refers to the "preconceived opinion or bias, against or in favor of, a person or a thing" (Marshall, 1994: 414). Prejudice can refer to a negative attitude toward an entire group or category of people. All port defined prejudice as an antipathy "based on faulty and inflexible generalization. It may be felt or expressed. It may be directed toward a group or an individual of that group" (1954). Numerous social commentators have analyzed the notion of prejudice. Theodor Adorno, became a major figure in the studies of prejudice. Using a sociological approach, he argued that the basis of prejudice lay in the existence of the authoritarian personality.
Individuals with a rigid personality show a high degree of obedience to the established social regulations. The rigidity of the patterns of thought make these people, in Adorno's view, have a greater tendency to incur in prejudice thinking and discriminate among groups of people (Adorno, 1950). He also established a direct correlation between prejudicial attitudes and far right political views. In addition, he established that people who see the social world in terms of a hierarchy are more likely than others to hold prejudice toward certain groups of people.
