Personally, I understand the situation to be too complicated for someone in my position to have an opinion on. There is no doubt in my mind that removing sanctions with Cuba would align with America's economic and political interests. Cuba's unsteady Communist Government offers ripe conditions for America to use economic leverage as a means of toppling Communism and establishing Democracy . Economically, America would also benefit from trade with Cuba, granting the U.S access to Cuba's sugar and nickel productions , providing Americans with another vacation destination, and opening up domestic business and job opportunities that inevitably follow the introduction of a new trading and tourist partner.
However if the sanctions were continued, America's economy would not suffer hugely. In other words, establishing Cuba as a trade partner would impact Cuba much more than it would impact the U.S. In this essay, I will examine the different ways in which I would expect Cuba to be affected if sanctions were terminated and the different perspectives that emerge concerning the benefit or detriment of those effects.
