The American democracy is one of the oldest ones that hasn't changed its core in the modern world. For example, countries like France went through five different republics. It was created on the fourth of July in the year 1776 after the American War of Independence against the British Empire. The constitution that defines it was approved by all the states that existed back then in 1788, and the first election took place between 1788 and 1789, where George Washington was elected with his vice-president, John Adams, who would later become the second U.S. President. Since then, not much has changed about the constitution that defines U.S. democracy.
The American electoral system is unique and can be difficult to understand for both foreigners and American nationals because of all the unique rules and quirks that lie within the constitution.
[...] The American electoral system is very unique and can be difficult to understand for both foreigners and American nationals because of all the unique rules and quirks that lay inside of the constitution. We will be looking at what defines the American race to presidency. At first, we will look at the organization of the United States electoral system and then the fact that the U.S Elections are a world show will be put in the foreground. What defines the American race to presidency? [...]
[...] Then, I will show that the candidates are rivals that will always try to prove the other is wrong and inferior, the tweets about the electoral college will be a great opportunity to do this since they both launch attacks at each other in the tweets especially when Biden says Trump would not have won without the electoral college. As we have seen it during the essay, the elections are defined by a very specific organization that is exclusive to the United States which is both loved by some and hated by others. We can also see that a real show is created by the elections that is followed through the entire world, by billions of individuals likely to spend some money because of the elections making it a very important industry. [...]
[...] The U.S Elections, a world show A multi-billion-dollar industry (Poster; Why 2020 US presidential race will be the costliest in History : https://www.voanews.com/usa/us-politics/why-2020-us-presidential-race-will-be-costliest-history) Make use of the poster once again to show that there are multiple campaigns that will need financing use that to say the candidates will have the occasion of selling merchandise and more talking about the maga hats as an example of a business created by the elections. Then, use the news article to show that the elections are getting costlier with time but also that they cost billions a graph shows that perfectly. [...]
[...] The Electoral college, a controversial institution (Poster; Tweets p36) Explain in much detail the Electoral college, expanding on what I said in the Talking about representation the role of the Electoral college how the number of electors (538) has been chosen but also how the number of electors a state has is chosen. Then, use the tweets that we have looked at in class to show that opinions can be very different about the electoral college and can change. Comparing the opinion of both Biden and Trump and then showing that Trump changed his mind about the Electoral college after being elected president of the U.S to really support my statement that the electoral college is very controversial. [...]
[...] For the presidential elections I will make use of this citation for example "By the best available estimates, the 2016 presidential elections cost $2.4 billion when spending by candidates and various interest groups are combined [HYPERLINK: https://www.opensecrets.org/news/2017/04/election-2016-trump-fewer-donors-provided-more-of-the-cash/]." I could also use these sentences "between 1980 and 2012 spending on presidential races increased by a stunning 1,200 percent." To really show the scale of the growth in American elections prices A subject that divides which gets more popular every year Why 2020 US presidential race will be the costliest in History : (https://www.voanews.com/usa/us-politics/why-2020-us-presidential-race-will-be-costliest-history ; Why the risk of election violence is high : https://www.brookings.edu/blog/fixgov/2020/10/27/why-the-risk-of-election-violence-is-high) I will be using the statistics that I have already talked about in the "II to show that there is some sort of "hype" around the U.S elections and say that it is evident when looking at what that the parties and candidates spend to be attractive and make the elections even more popular. Then I will use the second document to show that there is a real risk of violence that comes with the elections. I could take the example of extremist groups that are mentioned in the document and I will also talk about BLM and what they could think of the elections and what they could do (riots for example). There will also be a small part about how the elections break families, communities and states. [...]
