[...] CV and Motivation Letter for Master's Degree Application in International Security Dear Admissions Committee, I am writing to express my strong interest in pursuing the Master's in International Security program at Sciences Po Paris beginning in the fall 2024 term. As a current fourth-year student studying Global Governance and International Affairs at MGIMO University in Moscow, I believe the skills and multicultural perspective I have gained from my studies in Russia would complement the rigorous academic program and international network that Sciences Po offers. [...]
[...] Furthermore, I have actively sought opportunities to complement my theoretical learning with hands-on work experience. In the summer of 2023, I had the opportunity to intern remotely with Geolabe, an American startup applying machine learning to satellite imagery analysis of methane emissions. Specifically, I wrote reports on Geolabe's progress for marketing and wrote researched relevant funding sources and innovation competitions. The experience of adapting to a remote international internship also strengthened my skills in self-managed work, communication and highlighting work for wider audiences. [...]
[...] More recently, I have been coordinating weekly French language lessons for Russian students preparing for an international oratory competition. Through exercises in rhetoric, critical thinking and structuring arguments, I prepare students to advocate persuasively to judges. Drawing on debate experience, I help consolidate succinct expression. Not only have these experiences enhanced my understanding of real-world challenges across diverse geographic and cultural contexts, they have also served to strengthen my research, analytical, teaching and collaboration skills - competencies that are fundamentally crucial for comprehending and addressing complex global security issues through academic inquiry as well as future professional roles. [...]
[...] Studying here could open doors to instigating improved understanding on challenges where their stances intersect, from joint approaches on issues like regional stability and sustainable development to countering new global threats. In light of the above experience and qualifications, I believe my international experience, academic and professional achievements make me well-suited to succeed in the Master's in International Security program. I am deeply motivated to continue expanding my comprehension of global issues from a multidisciplinary yet policy-focused perspective. Thank you for your consideration, and please let me know if any additional information would be helpful as you assess my application. [...]
[...] Overall, this rigorous program provides an ideal platform to expand my theoretical foundation while cultivating applied expertise befitting today's complex international security environment. Although the recent geopolitical events disrupted the longstanding partnership between MGIMO and Sciences Po, my experience studying in Russia nevertheless underscores my firm commitment to international cooperation across borders. Through MGIMO's internationally oriented academic program, I have cultivated an appreciation for viewpoints across the Russian sphere. As someone now seeking to enhance my global comprehension, I believe that Sciences Po's prestigious Master's program in International Security, with its emphasis on policy-relevant research and location in culturally diverse Paris, is suited to support my transition into exploring challenges through a European lens.
