Governmental action on behalf of environmental problems has been a significant subject of subject of social and political commentators during recent decades. In light of new recent pressing concerns like Global warming and climate change, environmental issues have become a matter of public discussion and different analysts have looked at the complexity of the subject and the possible government measures that can be taken by government institutions to tackle threats to the environment. I believe that many governments all over the world are certainly taking initiatives to battle with the different problems that can potentially destroy large parts of the habitat populated by humans and animals. Nevertheless, government policy seems to be affected by a number of social and economic constraints that sometimes impede the development of government measures on a wide range of issues.
Government action and policy, I believe, are affected by public opinion. Lack of media and public interest on certain environmental factors can be detrimental, as political actions seem to be heavily influenced by the assumption and concern of public opinion. I can therefore argue that the public monitoring government actions is necessary for the adequate development of government action in this matter. In other words, the change must start with the individual, by both being respectful to the environment in everyday life while being accurately informed on these issues to place the necessary pressure and support on the government to implement the measures and reforms needed to preserve our natural environment.
[...] It seems that the Canadian government's brilliant decisions exemplify how a government can implement environmental measures effectively and reasonably. Strong political and social structures seem to play a very significant in the success implementation of governmental environmental measures. Nevertheless, the situation is not equal everywhere in the world, as serious research and monitoring of government policy is needed in many countries where certain economic interests seem to enjoy a greater than the preservation of the environment.
