Friedman's book Hot, Flat and Crowded motivates change and action for businesses, consumers, and political forces by increasing their awareness of trends, behaviors, and regulations that hazardously impact economic and environmental conditions. The book evokes a sense of urgency to preserve future generations as the world is becoming increasingly hot, flat and crowed. The convergence of these concepts creates unnatural climate changes, an accelerated loss of biodiversity, powerful petro-dictatorships, a shortage of scarce resources and a growth in energy poverty, further dividing the connected and disconnected. America needs to cultivate a revised vision and focus on a new set of goals in this termed Energy-Climate Era to respect the restraints of planet's environment, strengthen the nation and improve the American quality of life.
.
Excessive spending, consuming, building, borrowing, and lending has collapsed an unsustainable economy and strained our ecological systems, unable to sustain the American lifestyle for future generations. Participants engaging in unethical practices poisoned the Market by systematically obscuring costs, undervaluing risks, privatizing their gains, and socializing their losses. There was a clear lack of values and a demonstrated lack of responsibly for their decisions exemplifying the attitude "I'll be gone" or "You'll be gone", paralleled in the financial world and natural world. While all these factors contributed to the Great Recession, Friedman addresses a disconnect in the concepts of prosperity, educational achievement and handwork. Along the way, America has become distracted with the war on terrorism, ignoring the need to rebuild the nation, support education, and stimulate innovation. Instead, America needs to discourage complacency by regaining its role as a leader and its edge in the competitive global economy.
[...] An insufficient supply of energy has a range of harmful consequences, for example, In Nigeria the lack of energy supply has created blackouts costing their economy billion a year million deaths, mostly mothers and children, occur while cooking over open fires which cause indoor air pollution, a common alternative for grid connected electricity. I believe reducing energy poverty can improve the conditions of a hot, flat and crowded world. A study performed showed that access to electricity in Bangladesh can reduce the poverty rate by 15 percent. [...]
[...] To solve the problems affiliated with a hot, flat, and crowed world we need to implement code green, a plan for America to become the leader in innovating clean power and efficient energy systems while practicing the values of sustainability. The world is becoming increasing crowded. Population growth is increasing while our natural resources are depleting and infrastructures are struggling to support the current population. Currently, the population is estimated to be 6.7 billion, but by the year 2050 projections have stated a growth of 2.5 billion people, totaling 9.2 billion. [...]
[...] According to a study conducted by the International Labor Organization, the U.N Environment Program and the International Organization the world employs 2.3 million jobs is the renewable energy sector and will employ for solar and wind energies 8.5 million employees by 2030. The Obama Administration planned to help create 5 million renewable energy jobs during the following 10 years by investing $150 billion into the industry. President Obama feels that by investing in the renewable energy industry, the United States can develop a strong American clean energy industry that will secure domestic jobs. [...]
[...] Global weirding encompasses the concept of a hot world, and is magnified with the convergence of a flat and crowed world. CO2 levels in the air for the past 10,000 years remained constant at 280 parts per million but, today levels have escalated to 384 ppm. These current levels make hot spells even hotter, snow fall heavier, and storms more violent, flooding more intense, downpours more frequent, longer lasting droughts, forest fires more common and the existences all species further threatened. [...]
[...] America, the leader in consumption, should lead by example through the use of renewable, clean power sources and a foundation supporting energy efficiency systems. China, whose population is four times the U.S, has already demonstrated drastic economic growth with, requiring China to construct forty new large scale airports and inflating energy demand by annually. If the world continues on this track, we will need three more planets to support our needs. One way to reduce the effect of these trends is with the adaptation of the cradle to cradle concept which is to strategically design every product component to be continuously reused for other products or 100% biodegradable.
