This document is a piece of creative writing which contains a dialogue between several characters about personal and individual relationships between public and private spaces. Some people claim to be exactly the same in their public and private interactions, with loved ones or at work for example, while others are aware that they are changing. The task is to bring original characters to life and use them to illustrate the different points of view on the subject.
[...] Personal and Individual Relationships Between Public and Private Spaces - Students in a Classroom Anglais, classe de terminale générale (niveau B1-B2) Présentation orale sur les rapports personnels et individuels entre espaces publics et espaces privés [It's 5:00 PM, the math teacher has just left the classroom and four friends are sitting in class.] Sacha: (looking around) Finally, the teacher has gone. Have you ever noticed how boring his classes are? Océane: So boringgg Timéo: Oh yeah . I can't stand him; his classes are terrible . [...]
[...] It's like the uniform's problem. On one hand, they create a sense of equality by removing visible differences in clothing. But on the other hand, they can stifle individuality and self-expression. Jade: I couldn't agree more. Let's make sure that everyone can freely embrace their inner superhero, no matter the circumstances. Sacha: You took the words right out of my mouth. Océane: So, to sum it up, our behavior changes in public and private spaces, but maybe we should be a bit more genuine. [...]
[...] Timéo: Yes, we had talked about it She felt compelled to remove her hijab and dress in a way that was more in line with the corporate dress code. She doesn't want any conflict and prefer to conform to her workplace's expectations. Jade: That must have been really difficult for her. Océane: It's unfortunate that some people are forced to change who they are to fit into certain spaces. Sacha: It made us realize that the line between public and private spaces isn't always clear-cut, and sometimes, societal pressures can push people to compromise their authenticity. [...]
[...] [Everybody laughs] Jade: Yeah, making choices like that can really show how our behavior changes based on the setting. Timéo: (smiling) Speaking of changing behavior, someone is like a chameleon [il regarde Sacha]. With his girlfriend, he is a total boy lover, but with us, he's a real bad boy Sacha: No, stop, I'm not like that. Océane: In France, we would say you're a big duck Océane, Timéo, Jade: Sacha the duck . [Everybody laughs] Jade: (laughing) Sacha, you're like a secret agent of personalities Timéo: (serious) So, it seems like we all change a bit depending on where we are and who we're with. [...]
[...] Océane: And also, with the teachers Jade: See? We all do it Like when I'm with my best friend at home, I'm so relaxed, but when I run into my teachers in the school courtyard, I suddenly turn into a model student. Sacha: (laughing) Yeah, Jade, I've seen that transformation. It's like Clark Kent turning into Superman. Timéo: But Jade, you're not the only one . look at Océane with her grandma . Sacha, Jade: Huh? Océane: (thinking) I used to think I'm the same everywhere, but then last week, I had to choose between my great-grandma's birthday and a wild night at the club for my friend's farewell. [...]
