Movie, Georges Melies, A Trip to the Moon Screen Culture Review
The film A trip to the moon printed and heading by Georges Melies in 1902 was the first science fiction film that used animation and special effects. The scheme of the motion picture was based on the thoughts of two novelists, Jules Verne's,writer of ‘From the earth to the moon,' and H.G Wells, who wrote,"The first men to the moon." It brings out the story of six remarkably brave astronomers who accepted an order from the president to go out on a journey to the moon(Verne, 2007).
The astronomers get to the moon safely though extremely exhausted. The moon proves to be a land of many mysteries and wonders portrayed by the comet that passes and the big dipper that appears. In addition, Phoebe the goddess of the moon appears seated in the crescent moon, and she makes snow do what it does best fall. This snow fall awakens the astronomers and forces them to seek shelter in a cavern where they are attacked by selenite's (insectoid aliens) that take them hostage but they managed to escape from the aliens and leave the moon and safely land in an ocean on earth where they are rescued by a ship(Verne, 2007). A parade was held to honor the safe return of the voyagers, and, a statue to commemorate them was unveiled.
