Shirley Jackson - Richard Connell - Mr. Summers
On June 27, the residents of a small village come together so as to carry out a paramount tradition. This involves congregating at the square for the annual town lottery and in close comparison are other towns where this celebration takes a longer period of time. However, in this village there are approximately 300 people and thus the lottery taking an estimated two hours. Mr. Summers arrives with a black box as he is solely concerned with running the lottery. He plays this role due to the fact that he is always willing to do many things that concern the village without complaining and from deterring from his chosen path.
As the events gradually heated up, things took a turn for the worst as one of the inhabitants namely Tessie started to protest that the game was not fair. As she protested, she stood in the clear in the middle of the crowd and soon she was suddenly hit with a stone. In a span of seconds, everybody begins throwing stones at Tessie (Shirley, 2010).
