This book takes place in 1878 and centers around the idea of an extended trip throughout Europe, which was very popular among wealthy Americans at this time. This novel addresses the behavior of the young American girls who visit Europe and due to their new distance from home, become very flirtatious, and are therefore mysteries to the men that they meet in their international travels. I chose this book because I found it interesting to read about a girl who's actions would be considered provocative and perhaps loose or low class at the time in that culture, while today, no one would think anything of it.

This is a story about people, and relationships, which I was in fact trying to avoid, but the behavioral issues brought up in the plot summary on the back of the book intrigued me so I made an exception.
