I chose to read The Fountainhead based on a couple of recommendations. Written by Ayn Rand, it is an astounding piece of literary work that follows the life of a young architect, Howard Roark. The Fountainhead takes place in New York beginning in the mid-1920's and continues into the 1930's. In this famous composition, Rand explores her philosophy of Objectivism and paints a vivid backdrop for her characters to express her attitude towards society. Rand uses a parallel from the buildings that Roark creates to his personal beliefs and direction.

Context In addition to The Fountainhead, Rand has also written other primarily fiction works, including Atlas Shrugged and Anthem. [...]

Evaluation Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I found that I was able to think of the world from a completely new mindset, to understand the importance of remaining true to oneself. Rand did a wonderful job in balancing the story in her book as well as the Objectivist philosophy she so fervently advocates. [...]
