Ethnicity or ethnic groups generally understood as tribal societies or communities who traditionally have something in common identity. A form of identity such as language, place of residence, kinship patterns, marriage patterns, religion, architecture, patterns of residence, and others. Regarding the language, so this paper tries to study the function of language is both conceptually and practically. Language as one of identity, in which language can be a collective ethnic identity, but the language can also be a broader identity of the ethnic nation. Prominent features of Indonesian national identity reflected in the national language are Indonesian. Although in the historical development in a new Indonesian language emerged in 1928 in the Youth Pledge event and then get a variety of influences vocabulary of various languages, but Indonesian have ethnic roots are Malay.
This phenomenon is different for example with the Philippines which has 2 national language is Tagalog and English (United States), or India's national language is English, or the State Algerian French national language or national language of Singapore is English and language leave grandma fathers of the Malay language. The roots of the colonial culture which is reflected in the language that was then that animates these countries in advance that have adopted language of the former colonialist countries to serve as a glue language of ethnic unity.
Indonesian, of course, has a special character because she is rooted in local ethnic traditions which later modified and adopted as the national language that serves as an adhesive ethnic diversity. Indonesian is flexible and can be seen in various Indonesian dialects such as the Betawi dialect, the dialect of South Sulawesi, Palembang dialect, Papuan dialects etc, and according to Ferdinand de Saussure (1996: 80) this is the aspect of language parole. Indonesian standard (spelling enhanced / EYD) in the context referred to as the aspect Saussurian langue. For those reasons, this paper will try to review the case of utilization of Indonesian as the language of instruction in broadcast television, national television broadcasts reaching.
