Why did you choose to study history? Why is history so important for our present and our future?

[...] Oral presentation on History Why did you choose to study history? I chose to study history because I really enjoy this subject since always. After a health problem, I wanted to do something that enthusiast me. However, I don't want to teach but pass competitions in the public sector to advance my actual career of mayor's secretary. I'd like to work in urbanism, that is why I have decided to go back to school and study history. Besides, I'm a very curious person and history allows me to answer questions I'm wondering. [...]
[...] Can history be said to be a science? Give your reasons and give examples. Science refers to a universal knowledge: it must be always true and true for all. Thus, it is objective. Science is a knowledge based on accurate criteria. Historians have to demonstrate impartiality and a complete objectivity, because we don't ask historians to give us their point of view but give us the most objective knowledge. That's why I would say that history is a human science, because it studies how humans live in their environment and their interactions. [...]
[...] Thanks to history, we can understand roots of our culture. Finally, history helps us to embrace others cultures, to open to the world and thus accept the difference which is an important value, because tolerance is the key against hatred. How will history help you with your future career? First of all, I'd like to advance my career of mayor's secretary and move to an urbanism unit. I think that when you want to work in urbanism is really essential to have knowledge in urbanism because you have to know the story of cities, to know their urbanism history as well as their political and economic history. [...] The victors are said to write history. How much truth is there in this saying? If history is always written by the victors, how much do we really know about history? I am quite divided by the question. I would say no at first, because history is a science so it's objective and so historian mustn't give a point of view. It is based on real facts that do not exclude losers. However, how could we be sure that they base on real facts, because facts belong to past and it's hard to relate facts that we didn't see and live. [...]
