Since 1991, the percentage of N.O.N.E.S ("None of the above") has increased by 266%, and this proportion of non-religious American citizens is showing no sign of decline. Therefore, how could one claim that religious instruction is still relevant to public education and should not be seen as children indoctrination? We will see that all along societal evolution, religious instruction and public secondary education have grown to be incompatible.

[...] Firstly, they are no more compatible in secondary education than in primary education because children are still growing and creating their own values. Therefore, it wouldn't make much sense to teach them outside of religious influence until a certain age and suddenly start implementing religious instruction into their education. Moreover, even if that instruction does not include subjects such as creationism, we could still consider the teaching of religious values as brainwashing and indoctrination since it would be imposed on students. Indeed, in countries such as France where secularism is applied strictly in schools and has been for a long time, religion is not perceived as a necessary actor in children's education and growth anymore. Finally, we can't deny the fact that when there is no barrier to religion, it sometimes results in the teaching of harmful values such as homosexual rejection and even hatred if taught wrongly or also pro-life values, which is undoubtedly harmful to women when imposed on them.
