We decided to set up a paintball company to cater to those who enjoy outdoor games. This activity has gained substantial popularity over the last fifteen years. We can distinguish different aspects of paintball that are apparent in the recreational activity, paintball sports (i.e., a competitive activity), or other non-sports format games which may be customizable and performed, through 'players' or associations that are not affiliated with the federation of paintball sports (Paintball Scenario or Simulation).
Our structure is intended as a recreational activity for the general public. We chose to name our company "Fun Adventures" and omitted the word "paintball" from it because we want to develop other activities in the medium term (Tree climbing, mountain biking hiking, etc.) so that they become as popular as paintball in our society.
However, in our society, we find that the word "Fun" corresponds to the image we want to give the company and it gives us an opportunity to practice a sport of leisure in peace, without being "a notion of competition that occurs within this activity". We also want our image to be associated with the word "Adventure", which also refers to freedom and discovery in contact with nature. Similarly, the activities we want to establish in the medium-term fits with the name chosen to represent our structure, because they are also leisure and outdoor activities.
Our goal is to capitalize on our investment in the next two years and then develop these activities. To do that, we visited the site of Huison-Longueville, and posed a few questions to a moderator. We were surprised by the apprehension he had in answering our questions and felt that it was hard for him to believe that we were just students wishing to create a "virtual" structure. He nevertheless recommended that we go to "Prod Entertainment" located in Sainte Genevieve des Bois, where we could meet the President of the company. We struggled to get information at every step of our effort and learned that competition is an important factor in this market.
In order to have more information about opening a paintball business, we discovered a site at Huison-Longueville. This site was owned by Entertainment, which leased the land. Located in the forest, the terrain was ideal for the practice of this activity. 25,000 hectares, located approximately 30 km from Paris in the Yvelines department, the Chevreuse Valley was one of the most visited places in Ile de France. Now protected in a regional park, this region retains its original charm with its many forests and natural or artificial ponds, dug in the seventeenth century to feed the fountains of Versailles.
Opening a paintball site seemed to us a financially positive step. However, after a full analysis of the sector, it was revealed to us that paintball required a financial contribution more or less important to start the business in upbeat commercial conditions. Leasing the land, the purchase of new equipment required heavy initial investment but with the help of the strategic position of the terrain and the quality and quantity of equipment, we would get back the returns in the first year if the expectations were met.
