Within the hotel sector, there are several types of hotels ; the first type is the hotel chain, which is defined by INSEE to include all hotels that come under a brand regardless of their legal status (subsidiaries, franchisees, etc). Then there are the voluntary chains that consist of traditional institutions that have come together voluntarily and were affiliated.
They meet specific criteria, in terms of equipment and services. The best known are: "Logis de France", and the "Relais du Silence" or the relay towers. These are followed by the chains which consist of integrated and standardized facilities of the same brand. The customer is sure to find similar services and the same level of equipment in all the hotels, irrespective of the region in which they are located. Among these are: "Accor", "Etap Hotel," and "Mercury".
Finally, there are groups of independent hotels with free management. In addition, all hotels are subject to a classification established by the County Board of Tourism Action which grants the certification named "approved tourism." The classification is in terms of stars (from 0 to 4), relies on the quality, number of rooms, common rooms, the hotel's amenities, size, comfort of rooms and other services.
