The market for home consoles includes competitors who are engaged primarily in a technological one-upmanship. The market is constantly coming out with more advanced consoles that are powerful and more complete. The last generation of consoles brings a new dimension to this battle.
From a technological standpoint, the three rivals are not fighting with the same weapons: the PS3 and Xbox 360 consoles are very sharp in terms of graphics performance; they provide images in high definition (Blu-ray, Sony and HD DVD at Microsoft). Both consoles have been proposed by Sony and Microsoft respectively and are multifunctional, as they are able to play music, videos and photos.
