The organic products industry within the United States markets has grown significantly within the past twenty years. As a matter of fact, the organic products sector has ranked highest among the fastest-growing sectors within the United States, which further raises questions about how this industry breaks down in terms of sales, and what factors fuel the exceptional growth rate witnessed within the industry for the past two decades. It has been proposed that the United States organic products market has grown by over twenty percent over twenty years, with a 16.5 percent growth indicated for 2005 and the total food sales amounting to about 13.8 billion dollars. While the proposal might not sound like much and certainly was little, it only accounted for about 2.5 percent of the total sales of food within the United States - indicating that there was plenty more room even with the fast growth.

From the analysis of the Organic Trade Association, the rise in sales reported in 2020 could largely get attributed to the almost total shutdown of the "away from home" segment, specifically the customer pantry loading phenomenon and restaurants, which took place for a considerable period of the year.
