Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is deeply ingrained in META's mission of positively impacting society and making the world more open and connected (Taulli, 2012). META is committed to fulfilling its ethical obligations by distinguishing between good and wrong, actively engaging in environmental conservation efforts, and taking on social responsibility (Singh & Mishra, 2018). These include minimizing greenhouse gas emissions, promoting product recycling, and utilizing non-toxic materials in manufacturing processes (Allam et al., 2022). Despite these efforts, META has faced significant criticism for its perceived lack of commitment to sustainable practices. Criticisms have ranged from inadequate worker compensation to involvement in environmentally risky mining activities and reliance on coal for energy.

An ethical issue for META is in the Cambridge Analytica scandal (2018), allegations of inciting genocide in Myanmar (2018) (Herrick, 2022), and dissemination of misinformation and "fake news" during the 2016 US Presidential Election (2016); the tech company has been criticized for its poor data management, accountability, and responsibility (O'Shea, Law School). The company mainly emphasizes data security, privacy, responsible behavior, and digital well-being. META strives to uphold high ethical standards in its products and services, foster honesty and openness, and address ethical issues related to harmful content, hate speech, and disinformation on its platforms (Munoz, 2020).

[...] According to this theory, META Platform Inc. has an ethical duty to protect user data and privacy, regardless of potential benefits or drawbacks (Seynhaeve, 2022). For instance, the company's failure to prioritize user privacy and security in favor of profit-making or data collection may be considered unethical under deontological ethics, as in the case of the Cambridge Analytica data breach. Duty ethics emphasizes an individual's acts over their morality or consequences. In his obligation ethics, Immanuel Kant argues that morality cannot be based on enjoyment because happiness is subjective. [...]
[...] However, META's success also hinges on satisfying the needs and expectations of its diverse stakeholder groups, such as users, advertisers, investors, regulators, and employees (Bosetti, 2015). META Platform Inc. Innovation for its Sustainability The company has illustrated innovation in various activities, including the effort put into sustainability and commitment to powering its data centers using renewable energy. Investing in renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar power makes META reduce its carbon footprint and contribute to environmental sustainability (Calabrese et al. 2021). [...]
