The CSWE Core Competencies outlined in CSWE EPAS 2015 guidelines offer a detailed framework for social education. These competencies are vital in preparing students for professional practice. One of the core competencies is to identify as a professional social worker. This competency requires social workers to identify with the values and profession, for example, advocate for the values and ethics of the social work profession (Council on Social Work Education, 2015). They should also engage in continuous professional development. Moreover, the competency of applied Ethical Principles requires social workers to identify ethical dilemmas and apply the ethical decision-making process.
[...] Moreover, I would engage in peer consultation groups to get opportunities to enhance my clinical skills through feedback and collaborative learning. I seek guidance from experienced professionals on client management and policy navigation. One area that I excelled in was identifying as a social worker when interacting with clients. When identifying as a professional social worker, I demonstrated a solid commitment to the values and ethics of the profession. I applied ethical principles by applying ethical decision-making processes. Moreover, I respected and prioritized client autonomy, confidentiality, and informed consent (Council on Social Work Education., 2015). [...]
[...] I can also leverage my excellence in cultural competence and respect for diversity to engage with clients from different backgrounds. I respect the autonomy, confidentiality, beliefs and unique views of clients. Thereby, I would tailor culturally sensitive interventions (Sheafor & Horejsi, 2015). Finally, I would also leverage my strength in ethical awareness in all aspects of social work practice. I ensure consistent adherence to ethical guidelines and maintain professional standards. Besides, I would advocate for ethical decision-making in situations characterized by dilemmas. IV. Areas for growth I need to advance my clinical skills. [...]
[...] Another strength is promoting human rights and social justice. In my practice, I advocate for human rights and social justice. I engaged in policy advocacy and community organizing efforts to address systemic inequalities and promote social change (Council on Social Work Education., 2015). For example, I advocated for undocumented immigrants' access to health insurance. Finally, I consistently engaged in research-informed practice. I integrated research evidence into my practice to ensure I only implement evidence-based and effective interventions. For example, I applied evidence-based assessment tools such as the Substance Abuse Subtle Screening Inventory (SASSI) TO identify individuals with a high probability of having a substance use disorder.
