When isolation can be defined as the lack or absence of quality and quantity of social contact, technology on its side is the application of the knowledge and usage of tools (such as machines) and techniques in order to control an environment. As it is very well known that social isolation can be caused physically due to a disability for example and emotionally through some traumatic events or an unsustainable friendship, people wonder whether the social isolation is accentuated by technology.

That aside, we have mobile technologies, mobility tools, videoconferencing, social network sites, etc. It has been proven that technologies that are more based on communication provide better results when it comes to reducing social isolation.
