One of the most widely debated issues in modern society is that of abortion. Despite being legalized since the Roe vs. Wade case in 1973, the issue remains contested by many groups based on health, psychological, moral, and religious reasons. To note, reported abortion cases in 1973 were about 744,600 - a figure that continued to rise with time. The number of aborted babies peaked in the late 1980s to early 1990s and leveled off to about 1.2 million annually.
[...] Like what the Bible said, God has commanded that shedding the life of an innocent will also warrant the exchange of life of the person who committed the deed. Society continues to be blinded by legal maneuvers and expert distortions of moral issues. People must remember though that sin cannot go unpunished for long. [...] Yet, pro-choice groups say that this has been taken out of context. God has been involved in the creation of animals and trees but killing them is not considered murder. The same is true for a fetus; it only becomes murder when a full human being - a fetus that already has developed into someone with recognizable features - has been destroyed4. Meanwhile, the other side of the issue are the pro-life advocates whose primary point of argument is that the fetus in the womb is already a person. [...]
[...] Abortion, a murder in the eyes of God, is commonplace and legal. Aside from the act, abortion also encourages people to sin - making man less pleasing to God. Since abortion is legal, this sends the wrong message to everyone in society. This tells people that doing other unethical things is acceptable because the government, or those who are in the position to create laws, can find ways to legalize immoral behaviors. On a more specific note, the legality of abortion tells the youth that it is alright for them to engage in casual intimate encounters because they have a solution in case women become pregnant. [...]
[...] It is a fact that abortion is doing away with unwanted human beings. In essence, this is rejecting what God has chosen for his plan. Even if a woman believes that a child has been conceived outside of her plans, there is a reason why this has happened. Human intellect and understanding may not be able to grasp its meaning, but those who have faith will not challenge God's will. Devaluing of Human Life God would also not allow abortion because it would devalue human life9. [...]
[...] When people sin, this is like putting themselves away from God and away from his mercy. The various catastrophes and disasters experienced by man can be the result of his and her alienation from God. Old Testament Law Based on the Old Testament, abortion has been considered an act whose penalty is "life for life" (Exodus 21:22-23). The passage is about man injuring a woman who is carrying a child and that his act caused harm to life. In essence, this refers to abortion even if the term has not been categorically stated. [...]
