Psychological disorders are irregularities within the mind and brain that negatively impact people and individuals worldwide. There are numerous categorizations, classifications, and descriptions of psychological disorders however even with today's modern scientific research capabilities and innovative theories, some psychological disorders can not be undoubtedly and completely explained or comprehended. A psychological disorder known as somatoform disorder is one disorder that is yet to be understood entirely (Oyama, 2007). There are both scientific and theoretical research data referring to somatoform disorder. Somatoform disorder is also described as having significant impact on human development and socialization within individuals. The following content examines the elements and sub-categories of somatoform disorders as well as addresses the relationship between somatoform disorder and human development and socialization.
Somatoform disorders are psychological and psychiatric disorders that are the primary determinates for medically or scientifically unexplainable physical ailments pertaining to diagnosed psychological disorders (Oyama, 2007). Individuals suffering from this disorder endure pain, discomfort, and illness subjectively; however the origin of the ailment can not be identified objectively. The lack of physiological evidence of discomfort and sicknesses create a confusing and frustrating obstacle for both patient and medical practitioner. Some physicians may even dismiss the idea entirely and suggest that it is all in the mind. This statement may be true however; it brings little if any ease to the individual affected by somatoform disorder. If the physician is knowledgeable enough to comprehend that even though the illness may not be able to be sufficiently observed, or audited, the condition may be real and actual to the patient and psychiatric or psychological help is necessary in attempt to advocate the individual (Kapfhammer, 2009) .
