Healthcare is a dynamic field that is often changing to accommodate the needs of patients and communities. The roles and responsibilities of healthcare professionals help to deliver quality care and enhance health outcomes. Healthcare management professionals are critical for the efficient functioning of healthcare organisations. This paper seeks to describe the roles and responsibilities of healthcare professionals. The focus is on healthcare management professionals, current clinical jobs that did not exist 50 years ago, a comparison between a nurse practitioner and a physician assistant, the role of the attending physician in managing the care of the patient and the interaction of healthcare administrators with direct care professionals.
