Heart disease has devastating effects on the quality of care, patient safety, and costs for individuals and the system. Regarding the quality of care, heart disease lowers the quality of care for individuals and healthcare facilities. It causes comorbid conditions, which deteriorate the health condition of the patient, causing poor patient results and necessitating frequent visits to healthcare facilities, increasing the financial burden. Also, heart disease treatment is complicated and requires specialized care involving several healthcare professionals, including cardiologists, nurses, surgeons, and nutritionists. Putting together these teams and care is complex, and a lack of input from a particular professional affects the overall quality and continuity of care (Opara et al., 2024).

[...] State nursing board standards and governmental policies help standardize the treatment protocols, regulate the distribution of healthcare resources, and dictate the reimbursement rates for heart disease treatment services. Strategies for improving the quality of care and patient safety and lowering the costs of care to systems and individuals include standardizing care protocols and the use of telehealth platforms for patient monitoring and follow-up services. Sources of benchmark data are the NCDR and CMS websites and databases. References Hamilton, G. W., Dinh, D., Yeoh, J., Brennan, A. [...]

[...] Also, these regulations have various impacts on costs to individuals and systems. Nursing standards regulate the distribution of healthcare resources based on staffing ratios, use of technology, available infrastructures, and skill mix. Proper utilization of these resources is regulated by organizational and governmental policies to assist in managing the expenses and costs accompanying heart disease treatment. Additionally, these policies dictate the reimbursement rates for heart disease care services. The rates determined affect the financial burden of the healthcare organizations and individuals and thus affect access to healthcare for heart disease patients based on affordability. [...]
