Singh and Dey (2021) add that effective communication is paramount in providing supportive and end-of-life care. Sensitive conversations, combined with emotional support, are critically important. The essay sets out to look at the key concepts and skills that are paramount to conducting effective communication within this context. Within this area, we shall look at the aspects of communication, such as verbal and nonverbal, active listening, the art of responding with empathy, and the kind of importance it holds in therapeutic alliance, for example, and finally be able to pick out the identified most common barriers to effective communication and strategies for overcoming them.
