This document outlines a transition from six years of experience as an editorial assistant at a local newspaper to pursuing a bachelor's degree in communication.
[...] Journey to a Bachelor's Degree in Communication Although I have not found an internship yet, my 6-year experience at Nice Matin is by far longer and richer. Besides, media and communication are closely related, that is why I decided to develop my creativity by enrolling at ISCAE. Overview of the company Nice Matin is a daily newspaper and a press group headquartered in Nice, on the French Riviera. With the distribution locally and in the neighboring districts of its seven publications, also including Var Matin and Monaco Matin, the group reaches 838,000 daily readers. [...]
[...] Equally, if a mistake or a wrong information remains after printing, it jeopardizes the whole stock of issues. That is why prominent papers now mostly publish online. Q. How do you see yourself in 10 years time? A. I think that with my past experience and my qualifications in communication, I will be able to provide my services to minor regional newspapers, which have a greater emphasis on local events and provincial people than their nationwide rivals, but which have not yet fully converted to digital marketing. [...] Among the objectives my supervisor and I defined, I had to analyze information and form, and to edit the article's structure and coherence. Beyond correcting spelling, I often reworded or shortened parts to harmonize the newspaper, from titles, standfirsts and captions, down to the article proper. To better understand the organization of events and social media advertising, I could train for a week with a senior employee and I could also enjoy a retiring worker's advice. However, it was almost on my own that I had to learn to use the company's software, which forced me to be more autonomous. [...]
[...] As for my colleagues, most of them have become more than work acquaintances. In order to be productive, an worker must be in the best of their physical and socio-psychological dispositions. Dynamics does not mean stress, thus Nice-Matin's collaborative and humane environment, on top of gathering dedicated employees with many years of service, is the key to its success. Nice Matin successively belonged to Hachette Filipacchi Media branch of Lagardère) and Groupe Hérsant before being saved from bankruptcy by a staff collective. [...]
[...] Interestingly, my new skills, studying at ISCAE and working lastly for luxury-oriented Press Media in Sophia-Antipolis, allow me to move across all the departments of a press company. Q. What would you like to focus on now, rather than pure publishing? A. I would like to deepen my understanding and abilities in the way a media is structured, how it manages to cover and lower expenditure, how it best organizes the information feed on the territory .
