During 4 months, I had the opportunity to be an intern at Fleetway Travel Plc. The company, based in the heart of Central London, offers many travel products at competitive prices, including tailor-made breaks, flights, hotels, car hire, and travel insurance. I had never worked in the tourism sector so it was a real opportunity for me to have a feel for this area.
I have worked in the marketing department, so I could practice what I have learned last year and I have also studied and practiced web marketing. The internship was basically about writing attractive descriptions for the offers proposed by Fleetway along with studying the competition coming from other web -based travel agencies, developing the marketing blog of the firm, establishing a satisfaction questionnaire, writing newsletters and looking for new partnerships.
First, I will present the company. After that, I will describe and analyze the work objectives I had. Finally, I will describe about what this internship has given me in terms on learning in both personal and professional aspects of life.
[...] After that, I added Fleetway Travel in all travel “price comparison” websites. My boss expected me to do this work in order to get people to know the brand: adding the website brings notoriety. I contacted the brand marketers to have all our offers and I linked with all the websites we wanted to be in. Later, after concluding some contracts to be on the other websites with my boss, I had a copy task to do: I had to enter all our packages, flights, hotels, etc that we proposed, add pictures I have to admit that this part of the work was a little bit boring but it was interesting for the company and its notoriety. [...]
[...] Every department of the company had to study the competition coming from other web-based travel agencies in its sector. As a result, I also studied the competition regarding the web First, my boss told me who our main competitors were. After that, I had to assess their presence on the web of them and compare it to ours. It means that I had to look on every forums, price comparisons, Facebook, Small World, blogs who people were talking about, and if it was a good publicity or not. [...]
[...] I was very disappointed to not be here for her: I knew that it was important for her and she thought that I told her that I was not coming to make her a surprise This internship made me overcome my shyness: I learn to be more open- minded by working in team and it allows me to open out personally. Plus, living in the United Kingdom allowed me to improve my English. There is nothing better for learning a language than living in the original country. [...]
[...] However, I convinced those ones in telling them that Fleetway Travel offered a training explaining how to use of the software for the companies so it would be simple to be a partner of Fleetway. As it was one of the last objectives I had to do, I did not have enough time to convince so much travels agencies. However, I succeeded to affiliate two of them. III - Consideration about what I learn personally and professionally 1 Professionally I have firstly learnt to respect deadlines, be rigorous and get over the pressure. [...]
[...] Marketing policy We can study the marketing policy of Fleetway Travel in analyzing the 4P: product, price, promotion, and place. First of all, regarding the product, they are axed on blog & buzz marketing; they want to put comments on their website and on other websites that talk about tourism and travel. The company also wants to have a quality image: they improve the customer services and implement some satisfactions inquiries in order to be ensured that the products they offer reflect Fleetway Travel's image.
