In the south east of Asia, Hong Kong is located on the eastern side of the Pearl River Delta. The territory was a British colony since 1842 and returned to China in 1997. Since this date, Hong Kong is called The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Half independent, half Chinese, the region has 50 years to become fully integrated into China. Hong Kong is completely embedded in the Anglo-Saxon culture, whether it concerns business, politics, traditions or daily-living. Under the "One country, two systems" policy, Hong Kong is ruled like an Anglo-Saxon country and the People's Republic of China is only militarily and diplomatically represented. Hong Kong is known as the world's most liberal economy and will profit from its very high degree of autonomy until at least 2047. For example, English will remain Hong Kong's official language for decades. Nevertheless, China gets everyday more influence on the city and it is obvious that dramatic changes will happen in the next decades, in politics for example. So far, the Chief Executive, the head of territory and head of government, has always been selected by the Chief Executive Election Committee composed of 800 members, but it was decided in 1997 that a condition of the return of Hong Kong to China was the organization of democratic elections. But the media, and especially the government official Chinese newspapers like The South China Morning Post or the China Daily, give proofs everyday that this is very unlikely to happen.
[...] But it became clear during my internship that the inspection report is above all a communication tool. Louxor Limited has always wanted to be transparent with its clients and to show them its way of working, and I think this is the main role of the inspection report. But the final decision is not so often hard to take. Louxor Limited makes great efforts when choosing its factories and working with them before they produce, and it is very rare that the goods need to be rejected Orders follow-up After the goods have been accepted, they are shipped to France and Europe from Shanghai, Hong Kong or smaller harbours and airports like Shenzhen and Hangzhou, and arrive a few weeks later. [...] It makes it live. But managing timing in China is very uneasy, and the quality controller has often very tight deadlines that do not allow any delay. Sometimes, thousands of dollars depend on his ability to reach the factories in a minimum of time. The intern at Louxor Limited has been recruited for its ability, among others, to manage timing when tripping in China. Timing management requires organization and adaptation skills, and the ability to work in stressful conditions and environments. [...]
[...] Internship evaluation 1 Skills gained i. Intercultural management I travelled a lot during my studies and could also benefit at the ESCP-EAP from interesting lectures about managing the intercultural. Nevertheless, working in Hong Kong and Mainland China has been the most enriching experience in terms of managing cultural differences. I have many examples to describe it. During eight months, I spend around 60% of my time in Hong Kong and the others 40% in Mainland China. In Hong Kong, I worked and lived in English and I enjoyed speaking the language. [...]

[...] This is why he has been recruited, and this is the greatest source of added value of the internship Quality control 1 A definition At Louxor Limited, quality control is concerned with checking and reviewing goods that have been produced before they are shipped. Generally, inspection of products and services - checking to make sure that what has being produced is meeting the required standards - takes place during and at the end of the operations process. There are three main points during the production process when an inspection is performed: When raw materials are received prior to entering production Whilst products are going through the production process When products are finished - inspection or testing takes place before products are dispatched to customers At Louxor Limited, the quality controller almost always makes his inspections once the production is finished, to guarantee that the whole production is reviewed Getting prepared Before every inspection, it is very important that the intern knows everything about the goods he is going to inspect.
