Nowadays, people would notice that some powerful countries like the United State, England, and Japan have their own uncommon subject for the students in the school. The subject is called sex education which is taught at the school as a common subject that is same as the other subjects such us Math, History, Chemistry, etc. According to the Wikipedia, sex education program consists of two, one is called Comprehension Sexuality Education which start from kinder and continues until high school. It brings up age appropriate sexuality topics and covers the broad spectrum of sex education, including safe sex, contraceptives, masturbation, body image, and more.
Another one is Abstinence-Only-Until-Marriage Programs emphasizes abstinence from all sexual behaviors and do not cover information on contraceptives, masturbation, etc. Even though schools have their own right to put sex education as their subject for the students, many people especially parents would not favor for it. To me, I am happy if the governments and schools care more about the sexual education for the students especially for the teenager. The reason why I am happy is that I can see some benefits from sex education at the school, yet, I also feel afraid if it gives the students some bad effects for their social life. For the further explanation, we will discuss more about the benefits and some negative effects of sex education at the school for the students themselves.
The first explanation is about the benefits of sex education at the school. I have four benefits of sex education at the school. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) at 2011, survey indicates that 46 percent of all high school students say they have had sex; and 14 percent of high school students have had sex with four or more partners during their lifetime. Among students who had sex in the three months prior to the survey, 61 percent reported condom use and 23 percent reported birth control pill use during their last sexual encounter.
[...] The other negative effect is that sexual education can go against an individual's moral or religious beliefs. Because many schools do not only teach the simple one like explaining about the bad diseases that might occur because of free sex , but the teacher also would teach how to have intercourse safely in order to complete the sex education subject lesson, whereas many religious and family values stress marriage before intercourse. So the lesson that teacher has thought would cross the family's religion and it also make a conflict with the family's faith. [...]
[...] A school will not change their curriculum based on one parent's ideologies so if there are serious problems to allowing a child to be in a sexual education course, then other educational programs such as private schools, religious schools or even homeschooling might suit for you.
