Humor, gender or social status
Different people find different situations amusing. Thus, this makes defining humor or wit tricky. Humor is the tendency of particular experiences that are cognitive in nature to bring about amusement and provoke laughter. It is universal, implying that humor affects every individual, regardless of the age, race, gender or social status (Berger, 1993). Several factors determine whether an individual will find certain conditions and situations humorous. The world has an extremely diverse cultural base, owing to the many tribes, communities and races that inhabit it. Each society has its own views, opinions and beliefs that may be either similar or completely different from the others. Humor overshadows the diversity of existence since it overcomes all barriers because of its ability to elicit emotional responses.
Humor, and specifically laughter, faces dismissed as normal in real life situations. Creating humor to evoke people's emotions is no easy fete. Accordingly, this explains the mystery surrounding hilarity. An individual may not know the effect of such laughter on his or her health and psychological well-being (Roach, 2003). Laughter is an important part of human life, and a major determinant of the well-being of the individual. It is a constituent of the emotional and psychological sector of a human being.
