Motivation, Contemporary society, Feminine characteristics
For most people in the contemporary society, body image is everything. Traditionally what mattered most were intrinsic and intuitive characteristics for both men and women. There was not much emphasis on physical appearances. Feminine characteristics like caring, kindness, respect, generosity, gentleness, loving and being motherly defined a woman. On the other hand, the definition of a man's masculinity came from his ability to provide for his family. Fast forward to the contemporary society, emphasis on the outward appearance has taken centre stage (Justin 15). Several factors motivate people to work out in order to get their desired physique.
In order to fit in a world where physical appearance is everything, it is alarming to see the extent that people go in order to improve their physique (Justin 17). Having an hourglass shape is every woman's dream while men yearn for abs and muscles. To achieve their dream physiques, individuals go to the gym, have workout schedules and hire professional trainers. The implication here is that individuals view the gym as the best avenue to improve their physical appearances.
[...] The media perception of the ideal body shape and size raises people's desire to work out. The media either directly or indirectly imposes on people the type of physique that is admirable (Justin 19). Therefore, some people work out in order to look like their best musician or any other celebrity that they admire. Commercials and advertisements use muscular men with abs also know as six packs and voluptuous and curvy women. People who are more confident about their appearance are more productive at the workplace, they tend to be jovial, and they maintain healthy relationships with others.
