Old technology is always a problem to our organizations when we consider different aspects such as cost, security and efficiency. Windows XP is one of such technologies and is widely used, but it has many security issues. Despite this Microsoft has announced that it will soon stop supporting this OS. It is therefore important to migrate to other operating systems that are better and more secure. The most important thing for organizations is protection of their digital data. There are several drawbacks of using windows 7 which includes some applications fail to run in this OS. In addition, some of the softwares that comes with other windows OS were not included in windows seven while on the other hand windows 8.1 have additional features (Rathbone, 2010).
The upgrade from desktop with the following specification, processor core 2 and a memory of 2 GB RAM, will increase the speed of the computers therefore increasing their efficiency. Not only will the computers become efficient but they will also be an improvement in the speed in which the employees serve the customers as fancy things are easy to work and associate with.

[...] It requires minimum installation and you won't need to reinstall the applications. For the new computers custom install will be used to upgrade to windows 8.1 as there is no data that is already stored in them. For the computers using windows XP there is no way of upgrading to windows We will therefore have to custom install it and the data that they have will be backed up in other computers. To test whether applications are compatible with windows we will use virtualization. [...]
