There are theories that have been developed to explain the concept of human motivation, personal training, and management skills of employees in their professions. Among those theories is Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. Maslow's hierarchy is a theory was developed in 1943 by a psychologist named Abraham Maslow (Green, 2000). The Maslow theory helps to explain that motivation of human beings are determined by unsatisfied needs. Maslow developed a pyramid of human needs to help further explain his theory.
The pyramid helps explain and breakdown in levels on how basic human requirements need to be satisfied before more complex needs can be addressed. The levels of the pyramid are entitled in order going from bottom to the top as; "psychological", "safety", "social", "esteem" and "self-actualization" (Green, 2000). It is important for management to understand that these levels may differentiate among individual employees as their needs and lives are diverse. The five levels of Maslow's hierarchy are critiqued with the career of a security officer. Does a security officer follow the same needs as proposed by Abraham Maslow?

Safety Needs Maslow's hierarchy suggests that safety is the second tier of a five tier platform. Through psychological prioritization of an individual's train of thought, safety becomes a strong basic need. It is suggested that once the basic psychological needs are met safety is the next process by means of security (Envisionware pg para. [...]

[...] Once all other layers of the hierarchy have been won, the individual will then be able to achieve self-actualization. Self- actualization is the peak of the hierarchy. At this point, the security officer is completely satisfied with who they as a person as well as their career path. Some unfortunately may never reach the top of Maslow's hierarchy because they may constantly be shifting between the layers of the pyramid. References Boeree, C., George. (2011).
