In the world today strong leadership with moral or ethical values is much needed, especially in human service work. The increase of unemployment and poverty has many people turning to people in this field for a variety of needs; counselors for depression issues, social service agencies for food, clothing, stove, refrigerator, and furniture vouchers help, with rent or utilities, the list goes on and on. The people who seem to slip through the cracks are those who cannot do much to change their situations, they were born different. The physically and mentally challenged cannot do many of the things we all take for granted everyday and need advocates to speak out for them. This is why a humanistic approach would work well when serving as a leader in this area.
My vision is an organization run under the transformational leadership theory. Collectively the entire organization is working toward the same goal, helping those in need (Schissler Manning, 2003, p. 51). To do this we all must work together, giving insights and ideas on how to do things better or more efficiently and how to cut expenditures. The way I envision this is by taking older traditions which work well and blending them with newer ideas and suggestions whiling watching and maintaining employees and client needs to obtain our goals.

[...] In training my employees I would have them spend one day of their training as a person with a disability. They would have to learn to do things as would the person with this particular disability would. This would allow them to see how much we take for granted every day. I would even implement one day a year as day in their shoes” day, in which each employee draws and slip of paper from a jar and must act out and spend the day as a person with a disability which will be written on the paper. [...] Building a rapport with not only our clients but also our co- workers can make it a positive friendly atmosphere where people feel comfortable, even in a bad situation and know they will find caring respectful staff members who will do everything within their means to meet the needs they have. Each client should trust those working with them to respect their privacy and personal values. As a leader I would expect this type of behavior from my employees. Works Cited Reich, J. J. [...]
