Music piracy is a term that is used to refer to the distributing and copying of the music without the consent of the recording artist, composer or the record company that holds the copyright. This can be referred to as a copyright infringement. It is a civil wrong that is even regarded as a crime in some nations. Music piracy has been a major nuisance, especially in the present times. This is because it is now being done easily, through the internet. Researchers claim that about 28% of the jam caused in the internet can be traced back to music piracy. Music piracy causes numerous losses to production companies. This is the reason as to why this research is aimed at reviewing the ways and methods through which music piracy can be solved. This will provide a better view with which the issue can be perceived (Torr 34).
According to a report that was recently produced by Forbes, "you cannot kill piracy and piracy cannot kill you". This is a statement that is rich in information on music piracy. The only thing that can be done is reduction of piracy. In short, it is impossible to eliminate piracy. It is true that piracy is the number one cause of the loss of artist development that is still being witnesses in the present times. However, artists have to put up with the fact that it cannot be extremely eradicated. This does not mean that it should be overlooked. Steps have to be carried out in an attempt to deal with this increasingly disturbing menace. These steps and ideas are obtained from different researchers who also choose to research on the same (Coover 453). There have been numerous changes in the music market.
