Regent Rules, part 29.1 says that dual relationships occur when the counselor relates with the patient in more than one context. [...] Conclusion Both the American Association of Counselors and the New York Board for Mental Health Practitioners provide guidelines that are necessary to streamline the counseling profession. Most of the guidelines regarding dual relationship, boundaries, standard of care and termination are somehow the same. Differences however come out on the details of the guidelines. The New York guidelines on counseling are centered on the statutes of the State of New York. In general however, it is calmer that professional counselors are normally faced with a lot of dilemmas during the course of their practice. [...]
