Article Analysis, The Environmental Issue, Bill Mckibben
McKibben evaluates the notion that degradation of the environment creates public policy problems (McKibben Par 1). He sets out to show that while people are debating the best approach to solve the problem, it is escalating and its severity is bound to catch them by surprise. For example, the public stance of political leaders contrasts with their inaction when confronted with the issue. The result of the inaction from the most powerful countries stems from the minimal effects of the degradation in these countries compared to the rest of the world. A good example of the unwillingness of leaders to take action is seen in their tendency to fund research and not correctional efforts (McKibben Par 3).
The main propositions in the essay are on the relevance of action from everyone. The strategies of self-interest have failed because the biggest players can take the changes but the poor nations cannot. Therefore, an emphasis on moral obligation is better suited to solving the issue. In addition, McKibben shows that political leadership has failed to solve the problem because of their inability to design popular policies for all parties. Therefore, it is important to pay less attention to political implications because they are only going to slow the process of response down.

The notion is created by a notion that corporate play an important role funding leaders' campaigns and thus influence their take. Therefore, when the writer proposes that political leadership has failed, existing bias against the leaders and large companies that contribute to degradation but have the most to lose if regulatory laws are passed influenced my perception of the paper. [...] For example, he shows that the best approach to the problem is to get involve an emotional aspect, the aspect of morality to convince people to take action. The statement ‘forcing most of its inhabitants to spend three months in thigh-deep water' shows the suffering of people in other part of the world and thus appeals to compassion from other people (McKibben Par 32). The rhetorical strategies used in the essay are very compelling because they are supported. For example, the use of logic to increase emotional effects on the readers is very compelling. [...]
