Aggression, Schools and primary prevention
Schooling is an important part of all communities. When in school, children acquire important values and attitudes that are applicable to the rest of their lives. Apart from the curriculum that guides schooling activities, schools are institutions of cultural transmission. However, a variety of factors inhibit the ability of schools to plays their intended functions. For example, in the Minnesota metropolitan area, there is an increase in the incidence of violence in schools.
It is important to understand why violence in schools is a social problem. Psychologists indicate that incidence of violence in the formative years increases the likelihood of violent responses in later life. The role of the educational system is to eliminate the incidence of violence in the children and thus serve the social interests of the society. Incidence of violence in school reduces the ability of the schools to plat this role, hence creating social problems by creating environments that promote violence and failing to create the correct attitudes in students.

However, preexisting factors inhibit the ability of students to control violent urges. [...]

The result is an ever increasing tendency of violence in school going children and the associated negative results to the society. The best solution is a holistic approach that integrates all aspects of discipline (Miller, 2008). [...]
[...] These councilors are tasked with solving psychological problems in the students and helping them improve. Their presence in the educational system is a positive aspect of development and it applies the aspect of mental problems and need for guidance in the school age system(Geffner, 2004). The councilors in the educational system are often members of the teaching profession with an additional course in applied psychology. Therefore, Mrs. Thomas proposes that they are ideally placed to tackle student's problems in the best environment. [...]
