As this dynamism is mostly located in Indian cities, they have created a new urban way of life: women do often work in service companies and are authorized to stay single. The Indian film industry perfectly represents this change: Bollywood films are not only successful and exported, but they also embody a typical and singular Indian culture revealing some of its current challenges. As Swades, the Indian movie which depicts the shock between modern Indian culture and its confrontation to strong traditions, the country has now to face and combine a mix of oppositions. [...]
[...] While a selected abortion of female fetuses is still a spread action among Indian women, most of them are still deprived of personal choice and rights concerning their own marriage, enrolled in their "bridegroom." Most of them are even still married at a very young age. As we've seen, India is today more than ever a place of great disparities. As oppositions still increase, the country has to face a challenging situation which is to combine the different aspects of modernity and tradition in a singular Indian culture. But women who are suffering the most of this situation seem to have taken the wheel, convinced, like this little Indian girl Rekha Kalindi who refused her social condition. India is still a highly surprising place. [...]
[...] Within its 1.15 billion inhabitants, the country faces today a great contradiction between its two different populations. On one hand, we've a fast growing and booming economic place from which middle-class people have taken a profit. On another hand, we've a large part of Indian people still living in rural areas according to their inherited traditional principles. As a result, the country faces a great challenge and struggles daily between these two oppositions. Since the end of the 1980s, India's face has changed to embrace modernity at a fast pace. [...]
